Assam-Mizoram conflict, Mamata Banerjee, Delhi’s new police commissioner | NL Hafta 339

2021-11-10 0

This week on NL #Hafta, Newslaundry’s Abhinandan Sekhri, Manisha Pande, Raman Kirpal and Mehraj Lone are joined by journalist Karma Paljor, editor-in-chief of EastMojo and co-founder of Atvi Infotainment.

In the context of the recent #Assam-Mizoram border conflict, the panel discusses the history of the border and the significance of the tribal identities of the Mizos. Karma says, “They’ve fought for independence, they’ve been bombed by the air force. So they stick to each other and support each other.”

The discussion shifts to #MamataBanerjee’s recent visit to Delhi and her relationship with the Congress. Manisha says that unlike Modi’s Gujarat model, the West Bengal chief minister “doesn’t have a model to show”.

The panel also talks about #RakeshAsthana’s controversial appointment as police commissioner of Delhi. Karma details the long history between Asthana and home minister Amit Shah. Abhinandan says, “This is why the police become redundant because people stop respecting the police.”

This and a lot more.
